Formal
Design by
Lumenelle
25%
of the quoted
price is due before formal design is started by Lumenelle. This is
considered
the design fee. You may cancel the project at anytime, However, if you
do, the design fee is not refundable.
Customer
Approval
You
are given an
opportunity to review the design package before manufacturing is
started.
This is intended to be a verification of the initial proposal. If you
want
to make significant changes from the original proposal, you may be
subject to additional design charges.
Manufacture
of lamp
or light fixture
Another
25% of the
quoted price (50% total) is due before manufacture will begin. This is
considered the manufacturing fee. You may still cancel the project at
anytime.
However, if you do, the manufacturing fee is not refundable.
Delivery
to customer
The
final balance
is due prior before the custom lighting product being released to you.
Times
shown above
are cumulative, some steps may sometimes be done in parallel or
eliminated
saving time. Also, many times, it is possible to deliver the built-in
portion
(i.e.. track) or a rough-in kit long before the light fixtures
(lamps).
(2)
The
steps shown
are typical - some steps may not be applicable or additional steps may
be required depending on the complexity of the product to be made.
(3)
Typical
UL lead
times reflect times given to Lumenelle on recent quotes.
(4)
Dry
or Damp Location
Incandescent Surface Mount Fixtures are UL listed during the
manufacturing
process and require no additional UL lead time or UL cost.
(5)
All
Wet Location Fixtures must be submitted to UL for "rain testing."
(6)
All
recessed fixtures must be submitted to UL for "temperature testing."
(7)
All
High
Intensity Discharge Fixtures (Metal Halide, Mercury Vapor, Sodium
Vapor,
etc.) must be submitted to UL for
complete testing.
Major
Custom
Lighting Considerations:
Cost
of Design Time...
a) The greater the
number of custom units to be produced, the less the catalog over custom
advantage.
b) Many products
are over designed and therefore expensive out-of-the-box. Good design
of
the custom solution can make a custom product cost competitive with a
stock
product.
Cost
and lead time
of UL listing...
On certain types
of fixtures, i.e. wet
location and recessed, this
could be the largest obstacle in affording a custom solution.
It is not uncommon for the cost of UL testing alone to be 2-3 times the
actual cost of the design and manufacture of a custom product and
multiply
the lead times by 2-3 times. We always do what we can to minimize this.
One
way to avoid the lead time and cost of UL is to create a
"decorative shell" that gives you the appearance that you want and
integrates an aready UL listed and fairly inexpensive off-the-shelf
light fixture.
Both
cost and lead
time on subsequent orders is significantly less because the design time
has been amortized and design completed. In addition, the manufacturers
of the custom components now have the fabrication data, tooling
fixtures,
etc. from first run. For those reasons alone, it makes great sense to
design
custom fixtures so that they are suitable for reuse in as many
subsequent
applications as possible.
